I AM A UNITED STATES NAVY DEEP SEA DIVER.

I traverse the dark, forbidding depths of the worl’s oceans, lakes, rivers and seas where only a select few can follow. They are my battlefield. I serve across the spectrum of our nation’s military services and with Special Operations Forces.

I honor my deep sea brethren past, present and future; they are my Family. My personal Honor and Integrity are above reproach and compel me to do what is right regardless of the circumstances. Courage is the hallmark of my trade.

The laws governing my chosen profession are absolute and unforgiving, demonstrated and proven with the blood of many brave divers who have gone before me. Because of their courageous sacrifice, I am committed to my Brothers-in-Arms through relentless mental and physical preparation. My knowledge of diving, underwater techniques and systems, physics, and hyperbaric medicine must be unsurpassed.

The accomplishments of United States Navy Deep Sea Divers are the benchmarks by which the world measures man’s achievements in the sea. My specialized skills, undaunted spirit and unbreakable will wnable me to succeed in an environment where there are no second chances. Excellence is my standard.

I maintain uncompromising standards personally and professionally. Accepting anything less would bring disgrace upon myself and discredit to my community. My sense of Duty to God, my Country and the United States Navy and my Teammates is steadfast and enduring.

I AM A UNITED STATES NAVY DEEP SEA DIVER.

HOOYAH, NAVY DIVER!

THEN...

I am an icon, a symbol of man’s potential. I exist against the laws of nature. I am not a cosmic incarnation shaped by lightning bolts or molded by dirt. I am crafted by callused and imperfect hands; my raw materials are blood, sweat and tears. I tower above you because I was forged that way. My physical manifestation is merely a reflection of the potential that resides in each onlooker. I am Jake. Like many empty shells that exist on the sea floor, I am donned and re-purposed by new generations that desire to earn a place in the uncharted realms of the mighty deep. I speak to you who seek extra ordinary achievement and implore you to stand before me and endow yourself with the spirit of my fore-bearers. Step into my Weighted Boots and be grounded and focused. Be not swept away by distraction or misguidance. Wear my skin to thicken your own. Remain impenetrable to the harsh and cold nature of my world. Carry my blade, whose’ design embodies all things necessary to cut, chisel, or leverage any obstacle that impedes forward progress. Take hold of my umbilical for no man can endure such a life without the support of others like him. Use it to seek guidance and provide means to return from the dark. Foremost, don my copper. Be protected by the knowledge of those who have gone before you. Look through their eyes and use their experience to succeed and survive as your own experience is testament in each dent and ding. Only those that possess great inner strength will be able to utilize these gifts for they are cumbersome and difficult to bear. Wear my armor with purpose and the conviction of those who have paid the dearest price, so you may move forward with more understanding and preparation than they were afforded. Now diver, stand up and approach the water’s edge!

I AM JAKE

WHO ARE YOU???

NOW...

It's said the IRON MEN are gone

...And only in sentimental song live on.

Soft living has taken its toll, they say

The IRON MEN belong to another day.

But listen now and I'll tell you true.

That IRON MEN still wear the Navy blue;

For when the cry rises to succor and save,

The Navy Salvors - the first of the brave.

Steel ships ripped on a coral reef

Need steel men to free from grief.

Ten fathoms below a Diver grows chill,

Works with his hands, his heart and his will.

"Bring back my son from his watery grave!

Raise that boat - a fortune to save!

Clear that wreck that blocks the port!"

"CAN DO!" is the Salvors ready retort.

From the bitter freeze of the Arctic cold,

To the heartless heat of the tropic fold,

Wherever tormenting wind and sea are met,

Fare forth the Salvors with no regret.

When at last the toilsome deed is done

And the fearful struggle with sea is won,

The Salvor sighs a great. AMEN

And takes his place.

THE IRON MEN
